You realize of course, that after this comes out, it'll be another <font color=red>five</font> years after that before book 6 comes out.

That would slow down the movie production too much so I hope not. I am going to be interested to see what they do regarding Dumbledore in the movies

Word from The Leaky Cauldron is that they are casting Michael Gambon (think I got his name right) for Dumbledore. I've seen him in various things--he's good, and at sixty-two is old enough to look the part.
Supposedly the guy who played Dr. Smith in Lost in Space is in as Sirius Black and they just cast Prof. Lupin, forgot the actor's name, but he played the castaway in The Island of Dr. Moreau.

So, let the speculation begin.
We know there's gonna be a death of a major character that was difficult for JK to write in book 5. Who's it gonna be?
In Goblet of Fire, you are left with the definite impression, that Hermione and Ron, may end up getting together. There is also several things I've heard from JK Rowling, that would lead you to believe that Hermione would get together with Harry. Emma Watts (I think that's her right last name) said in an interview when asked who she was gonna become involved with "Well, who do you think". That kinda sounds like Harry to me as well.
Now, I hate to say this, because he's one of my favorite characters, and if Merle sees this post, he'll skin me alive for suggesting it, but, is it possible that Ron and Hermione start to become involved, Ron is the death, and then Harry and Hermione in their grief end up becoming involved?
Or perhaps because Dumbledore is old, and had to be replaced in Prisoner (and Goblet, if it's made) since Richard Harris passed away, maybe Dumbledore is the one.
Major characters that were difficult to write the death of leads me to believe it would be one of the following:
Harry (doubt it, since he's the star, and the books are named after him, plus if the fight goes on long enough, he would end up taking the reigns of leadership)
Ron (I don't like that idea one, bit, but a strong possibility)
Hermione (probably not, unless another female friend is quickly introduced and a friendship developed quickly)
Hagrid (a definite footsoldier, could be a definite possibility, and very high drama for a great number of characters, actually he and Dumbledore, would probably have the greatest dramatic impact on the most people)
Dumbledore (Good Possibility)
Snape (Good possibility, he's a double agent)
Sirius Black (probably not, although it would have a dramatic effect on Harry, so for the sake of Drama, good possibility)
McGonagall (I don't think she's too actively involved, so probably not. She's more of a leader, not a foot soldier)
Dobby (he could become successful with uniting the house elves into an all out attack that goes wrong, resulting in his death. Or is unsuccessful, and goes it alone, resulting in his death)
Perhaps one of the other Weasley family members (Fred, George, Percy, Dad)
If it's not someone from that list, I'll be surprised, which of course means it won't be, since JK has been successful in misleading me in all four of the books.

Ron, Hagrid, Snape, then Dobby

I think Dumbledore. He is Harry's mentor and things will get alot more difficult if he is dead. I don't think it will be Snape, he is a double agent but he is not the most sympathetic character. I don't know why but I don't think it will be Ron, just going with my gut.
I am guessing that Harry saves the day in the seventh book (the last one of the series) which means that things have got to get really bad in books 5 and 6. If it is true that Dumbledore comes clean with Harry in the fifth book, then that makes Dumbledore less necessary in terms of the way the story is told. Dumbledore's death would leave all the good Wizards and Witches in shock and would allow for Voldemort and company to gain even more power in the sixth book.

Excellent points PC. In regards to Snape, for some reason I was thinking maybe Snape could be softened a little or something by dieing, (That's not stated very well). A noble death, being more sympathetic than you would expect. Probably not though. (I officially take Snape off the table.)
With Book 5 being 1/3 longer than book 4, (and knowing how much happens in just the 1st book, let alone the longer ones after it), I think there's enough words on the pages for the story to go just about anywhere, and a long enough story to twist in just about any direction. Plenty of time for JK Rowling to make just about anything happen.
